“Monitoring of behavior and spread of HIV among MSM as a component of second-generation HIV surveillance in Ukraine”

The research is being carried out by the staff of the Center for Social Expertise (PrivalovYu.O., Trofimenko O.V., Rokitskaya O.Yu.), acting as national coordinators.

Implementation period: June – December 2017

The purpose of the study is to monitor the prevalence of behavioral and epidemiological indicators of the risk of infection and transmission of HIV in Ukraine among men who have sex with men (MSM).

Objectives of the study:

Assess the spread of HIV among MSM;

Rate spreading behaviors associated with HIV infection, and the use of preventive and curative services among MSM;

Assess the incidence of HIV among MSM;

Calculate indicators of cascade treatment among HIV-positive MSM representatives (such as people living with HIV who are aware of their HIV status, receive ART, suppressed viral load).

Research method – RDS.

Geography of studies – 27 cities: Vinnitsa, Dnipro, Donetsk, Mariupol (Donetsk region), Zhytomyr, Ivano-Frankivsk, Kyiv, BilaTserkva (Kyiv region) Kropyvnytskyi, Lutsk, Lvov, Mykolaiv, Odesa, Poltava, Rivne, Sevastopol, Simferopol (Crimea), Sumy, Ternopil, Uzhgorod, Kharkiv, Kherson, Khmelnytsky, Cherkasy, Chernivtsi, Chernihiv.

The total sample is 6,000 MSM.

According to the results of the research an analytical report will be prepared.
